Summary

Judo is a modern Japanese martial art founded by Jigoro Kano in the late 19th century. It emphasizes throws, pins, joint locks, and chokes to subdue opponents. Rather than relying on strength alone, judo emphasizes technique, balance, and leverage, making it accessible to people of all ages and sizes. It's not just about self-defense; it also promotes physical fitness, mental discipline, and respect for others. Judo practitioners, known as judoka, train in a dojo under the guidance of a sensei (teacher), often progressing through a system of colored belts to signify their skill level.
